According to the BBC, a startling revelation emerges as three individuals have been apprehended subsequent to an inquiry involving the distribution of unauthorised medicines, encompassing cosmetic items like Botox and fillers.

Detective Inspector James Coles, representing Greater Manchester Police, underscored the force's unwavering commitment to "continuing the eradication of this particular form of criminal activity within the region."

A trio consisting of a 34-year-old man and two women, aged 36 and 53, have been taken into custody under the suspicion of money laundering and offences related to human medicines legislation.

Subsequent to their arrest, these individuals will be subject to questioning, conducted jointly by detectives and personnel from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Illegal Botox Seized

Addressing the issue, Andy Morling, Deputy Director of Criminal Enforcement at MHRA, emphasised:

"Medicines of this nature wield significant power and danger if mishandled, potentially culminating in severe detrimental health outcomes. Those engaged in the illicit trade of these products not only violate the law but also demonstrate a reckless disregard for public safety."
Morling firmly iterated that it is unlawful to advertise, vend, or distribute such medicines in the absence of proper authorisation.

JCCP

Professor David Sines, Chair of the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP), conveyed his concern, stating, "The unlawful cosmetic trade constitutes a multi-million-pound criminal enterprise, wreaking considerable havoc among individuals nationwide."

This comes just weeks after a report emerged about Botox and lip fillers being illegally available in Wolverhampton.
